Saga Guitar

Project Details

I was commissioned by the Georgetown College (the college where I teach) to create a public sculpture that retold the history of the college. I decided to make a guitar rather than a traditional sculpture. This way faculty, staff, students, and alumni can interact with it, as well as add to the story of the college. The flowers inlayed into the fingerboard represent major milestones of the college from its creation in 1829 till today and the direction we are going. The woods used to make the guitar are woods I have harvested off the campus since my arrival in 2006. The sounds that come from this are the sounds of Georgetown. I hope many will find comfort in the light it gives.
