Cradle / Walnut, cedar and maple / 2007

This was a set of chairs I made to resemble a courting bench. They were made to function apart and together. I made them to document how I have seen the relationship I have with my wonderful wife. I have always liked the way these two woods look together especially when they are fresh as well as old. Walnut starts out quite robust in color and unlike most woods it lightens over time. Cedar starts out vibrant and aromatic and ends up as a soft grey much like walnut. I would suspect in 50 years or so these chairs will be quite similar in color and tone.
