“I know your heart, I know your face” / Ebony, mahogany, maple, cherry, birds eye maple, curly ash, and lithography / 14 in circles / 2012
These companion pieces were made when my wife’s grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. They are designed from a bsic pattern in marquetry called Lois Cubes. The chevron shapes can be configured to make a whole host of patterns. I liked the idea of the same shape making two different patterns. Much like her Grandmother and Grandfather. The text that wraps the sides of the work are from the book of Hosea in the Bible, a text about loss and love and commitment. It has been a long time favorite text of mine that I often reflect on.
